Dr. Philip F. Harmon is a Professor of Plant Pathology and Extension Specialist at the University of Florida. He earned both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Purdue University, receiving a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology in 2003 and a B.S. in Plant Science in 1999. His research interests include diseases affecting warm-season turfgrass species and disease management for southern highbush blueberry. One of his primary goals is to provide efficient and effective disease management strategies for industry clientele, alongside collaborating with plant breeding programs to select for disease-resistant turfgrass and blueberry varieties.
In addition to his research, Dr. Harmon has made significant contributions to extension efforts, focusing on delivering rapid and accurate diagnostic services to the turfgrass, small fruit, and ornamental plant industries. His recommendations are rooted in practical, research-based disease management solutions. He has also served as an assigning editor for Plant Disease Management Reports and as an associate editor for Applied Turfgrass Science.
