Metarylpicoxamid is a new picolinamide fungicide binding to the Qi site of cytochrome b protein in Complex III of fungal mitochondrial electron transport. Discovery and biological attributes including fungicidal activity, spectrum, systemicity, and impact on fungal infection process are presented. Metarylpicoxamid is primarily used for control of Asian soybean rust (ASR) caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi. In addition to the outstanding ASR control, the compound is highly active against soybean powdery mildew, and showed strong activity against several additional soybean diseases.
