This day-long pre-meeting workshop will specifically address the challenges and management strategies for newly emerging diseases in rice in the US and globally. The morning session will focus on topics such as rice kernel smut, Hoja Blanca virus, bacterial leaf blight (Pantoea ananatis), bacterial panicle blight (Burkhoderia glumae), etc. The afternoon will be dedicated entirely to false smut, an emerging global disease, and will serve as the annual meeting for the International Rice False Smut Consortium, which includes representatives from 22 member organizations across 15 countries. This meeting is expected to attract an additional 30 top research scientists from abroad. Additionally, there is potential for securing donations from private foundations and various agricultural companies.
