Harshita Saxena is a PhD student in the Institute of Plant Breeding, Genetics and Genomics at UGA since August 2021, under the supervision of Dr. Bochra Bahri alongside Dr. Paul L. Raymer. Ms. Saxena is conducting her research on "Host specificity of Magnaporthe oryzae (syn. Pyricularia oryzae) across the Poaceae family and mechanisms of resistance in rice and turfgrass". The spread of this pathogen and its host expansion pose potential threats to global food security and biodiversity. To devise effective management strategies, it is crucial to comprehend the interaction between the host and M. oryzae isolates. Ms. Saxena's research endeavors to contribute valuable insights in this domain. Ms. Saxena has received recognition through various awards, including the Bill Rose Foundation Travel Award and the Central Georgia Community Foundation Board Scholarship. Furthermore, Ms. Saxena's involvement in various side projects has yielded tangible results, culminating in co-authorships on dollar spot and rhizoctonia large patch of Turfgrass.
