A tropical plant pathologist has the thrill of working with unique crops and the frustration of having only a few colleagues that also work on the crop. A tropical plant pathologist encounters pathogens with life cycles that differ from temperate-adapted pathogens and thus present opportunities for management that exploit are unique. The opportunities and challenges afforded to tropical plant pathologists have led to salient contributions in disease management and understanding pathogen biology.
