Branch Chief USDA APHIS-BRS Riverdale, Maryland, United States
APHIS Biotechnology Regulatory Services (BRS) regulates the importation, interstate movement, and environmental release of certain genetically engineered microorganisms (modified microbes) that may pose a plant pest risk by issuing permits. Permit applications collect details about the nature of the modified microbe so that appropriate conditions are used to prevent its spread and establishment in the environment. This presentation will discuss what is needed to obtain a permit and how BRS issues them.
